If you think that this fascination with the French
Riviera is just a recent trend, think again! 600 years before
Christ, Greek merchants had already spotted this wonderful area. They
plied their trade in the ports of Antipolis (Antibes), Nikaia
(Nice) and Monoikos (Monte Carlo). Then came the Romans whom settled there
as well. The area has many precious
reminders of the Roman Empire, the
beautiful arenas in Frejus, the town walls of Antibes, the Roman Baths in
Cimiez (Nice), etc... If you love history, you will find many wonderful
sites to visit during your stay.
A playground to the rich, the French Riviera
has always been known for its
superb weather, blue skies and balmy Mediterranean environment. Its towns
are internationally renowned: Monte Carlo, whose streets periodically
metamorphose into a Grand Prix Motor Racing circuit overlooked by the
fabulous Royal Palace; Cannes, home of the star studded Film Festival of
Cannes; Nice, with its Rio de Janeiro-style glittering carnivals; Grasse,
perfume capital of the world, and its Rose Parade;
Saint Tropez, where the rich and famous flock every summer for a time of
wild partying... Yet the Cote d'Azur is infinitely more than that, it's an
area full of tradition, dedicated to the arts and brimming with cultural
activities. Throughout the region in the "low season" (winter)
there are no less than
12 festivals, 64 exhibitions, numerous shows, and some 10 internationally
attended sporting events! (For a listing of dates, see bottom of this
page)

The French Riviera offers one of the best weather in Europe,
with 300 days of sunshine a year and mild temperatures in
winter. Not so long ago, people would flock to the Riviera,
seeking healing and relief from respiratory problems. It is not surprising
that today, many celebrities and influential people would settle down in
this lovely area and make it their home. Secluded
mansions can be found all along the coast line, from Monte
Carlo to Saint Tropez.

The French Riviera is a land of infinite diversity, an endless feast of
scenery and color for hungry eyes: After the creeks of the Esterel
come the
long beaches of Cannes. From the sparkling blue water of
the coast to the deep valleys found inland... In
winter, while tourists stroll along Canne's famous "Croisette"
wearing short sleeves, snow covers the top of inland mountains, and people
are enjoying great skiing. Each valley and village has
its own character... Old picturesque towns clinging on
the side of mountains can be found within a 30 min drive from
major cities. This diversity allows the area to offer a wide array of
sporting activities. Cultural events thrive all year long... Whatever your
interests or hobbies, you will be able to enjoy them here.
